RUNNER (2018) | narrative | 25 min | Writer, director, producer
SYnopsis
Steeped in elements home to San Francisco – fog, wind, and rock – RUNNER disentangles the psyche of one woman training for the most important run of her life, one she cannot win, but one that will ultimately atone for her past.
Director's Statement
RUNNER is about the spoken and unspoken motivations that move us to action and shape the personal stories we tell ourselves, defining our purpose individually and collectively. Reasons may confuse us, elude us, but they ultimately orient us, revealing whether we’re running away from or towards something. When we find our reasons, we find ourselves.
Production notes
The film was also a very personal exercise. As a first-time writer/director, I wanted to pay tribute in tone and style to a shortlist of genres, movies, and worlds that have seduced me into a filmmaker. Part love letter to San Francisco and its palatial surroundings, part homage to the structural entanglements of a minimalist thriller, I wanted this film to both pay its respects to and rest on the shoulders of these narrative titans.
